How are electrical interactions associated with the structure of matter?

Covalent and ionic bonds have to do with whether the atoms are charged negatively or positively. An ionic bond depends on there being a negatively and positively charged ion which are both attracted to each other. Being attracted to each other, they are held together by a bond, which causes the particles to stay connected to each other. A covalent bond occurs when two atoms are sharing an electron.
